Most Recent Concerts Attended:
*Jason Mraz: He's my new obsession. Great performer: knows how to work an audience. Has lots of energy. Dude, 2 hour set! No kidding. And he was dancing, speaking in a British accent (reminded me of a nice elderly English lady who's about to invite you to tea. hee-hee), and of course singing and playing his guitar. The show was opened by Tristan Prettyman with a cameo by the Mraz for their duet of "Shy That Way." We had to drive 4 hours to get to WVU right after a class and four hours back, missed a class just to see him. But it was all worth it. ROCK IT, 619.665.8622!
*Sister Hazel: Proof (ie. pictures coming...still have to finish the roll). Anyways, it was during Homecomings 2003 (October 21) at UVA. great music + free cotton candy + free food = good time. Very energetic set, was worth every second waiting in the semi-cold evening out in MadBowl. I've said it many times before, Ryan Newell, lead guitarist, is one of the many reasons why this show was worth it. He oozes with "rocker" charisma: passionate guitar player and the shy/mysterious attitude. I'm surprised Sister Hazel isn't as popular as they should be. They're really good; their songs are radio-friendly. They were definitely out to share the love and have fun with their audience that night. The concert put a smile on my face...for days.
Alright then...here are some of the concerts I've been to...Aaaah, the memories.
*The Smashing Pumpkins: Good thing I caught them before they disbanded. I love my Pumpkins shirt.
*Travis: First time attending a Travis concert. It was awesome...Ever hear them do a cover of Britney's "Baby, One More Time"? It was a million times better than her version.
*The Offspring: There was nothing else to do that Friday night. I haven't been to a concert in a while...so I went. Seemed logical to me. I got to see Santa in a bikini...very surreal to say the least.
*Oasis/Blackcrowes: It was a double header. Oasis played first. I was really looking forward to brotherly bickering but they were busy enough ignoring each other on stage. Their set started at 8:30-ish, ended before 10 PM; I was sort of p'd off. It was the shortest set ever. They didn't do a lot of their good songs. We stayed for the first two or three songs of Blackcrowes' set and then we left. Then we got lost going home....eep!
*Dido with Travis: It was raining...Fran came out with a bucket hat on and the band started playing "Why does it always rain on me?" I bet it wasn't even on their set list. They just dedicated the song to everyone especially those getting soaked at the lawn seats. We originally got seats for row QQ which was a mile away from the stage, but after begging a nice concert staffer, we got "temporary" seats at....get this...row C! Nice, huh?! We got booted off when the actual people who had those seats came for the Dido set. Well, we didn't really care for her so we just left, and thanked the nice lady on the way.
*Travis at the 9:30 Club: After an Astronomy exam, a two and a half hour drive from C'ville, and a forty minute ride to DC (traffic, rush hour), we got to the Club right on time. In between the Remy Zero set and the Travis set, we played movie trivia and some random guy with an accent who looks a bit like Fran asked "what did they use as rain in Singin' in the Rain?" I got a travis shirt.
*Dave Matthews Band: Concert ticket given as a Christmas (2002) present. Great band dynamic. Nice long set: 8:20PM to 11PM...sold out MCI center packed with Daveheads and me.
Concerts I could have gone but didn't....
John Mayer at UVA: 'cause I was not in the know, ie. I did not know who he was during spring semester 2001. That totally sucks!
Foo Fighters/Red Hot Chili Peppers: May 3, 2000, I had my last SAT Prep class which by the way got CANCELLED since the instructor got into an accident. Man, I should have just gone.
